Abstract

1384693 Venturi scrubber PEABODY Ltd 15 June 1972 [16 June 1971] 28224/71 Heading B1R A venturi scrubber having a rectangular cross-section throat 2 comprises a movable throat member 9 to vary the cross-sectional area of the throat 2, said member being biased in a direction to decrease the cross sectional area of the throat and being movable in opposition to the biasing force by the pressure of gas flowing through the venturi. The member 9 may consist of two plates 10 and 11 in the form of an L, biassed by gravity and moveable on guides 12 and 13. The member 9 can be positively positioned and fixed by a piston and cylinder actuator 21. Liquid is supplied to the venturi from a nozzle 14 and a weir and reservoir, 7, 8. In alternative embodiments the member 9 may be mounted on parallel swinging links (22) (23) Fig. 2, (not shown), or on hinged arms (25) Fig. 3 (not shown).
