Abstract

1384590 Continuous casting SOUTHWIRE CO 20 April 1972 [20 April 1971] 18448/72 Heading B3F [Also in Divisions F4 and C1] A refractory pouring spout for teeming metal, e.g. copper into a wheel-and-band machine, from a tundish 12 has a tapered bore 16 or a straight bore (17, Fig. 2) and is made of material having the composition 28-70% carbon 0-36% silica 0-22% alumina 0-52% silicon carbide 0-20% silicon 0-20% glaze 0- 5% other refractory substances The spout has a rounded inlet lip 15 whose radius of curvature is equal to or greater than the radius of the upper portion of the tapered bore or the radius of the straight bore. The spout is inserted from the tundish by wedging in the tapered opening 13.
