Abstract
1384467 Mixing CINCINNATI MILACRON Inc 7 April 1972 16066/72 Heading B1C A mixing device 10, e.g. for viscous liquids, comprises a mixing chamber defined by oppossing faces of a housing 11 and a rotor 16 arranged to subject the liquids to a shearing action in the chamber, means 27 being provided for impelling the liquids through the chamber, and a passageway being provided for recycling part of the mixture. Liquids from metering tubes 23, 24 may enter a preliminary mixing chamber 22 defined between a rotor drive shaft 20 and a wall 18 rising from the rotor 16, prior to discharge through slots 25 to an inlet 12. Helical ribs 27 of the rotor impel the mixture towards an outlet nozzle 14, while a helical groove 28 in the housing 11 acts as a recycling passage. Alternatively, Fig.. 3 (not shown), the preliminary chamber 22 may be omitted, or the recycling passage may be formed by an annular space between an inner wall of the rotor 16 and a baffle tube 29, Fig. 4, apertures 30 leading back to the mixing chamber. Further, Fig. 5 (not shown), the internal wall of the rotor 16 may taper outwardly upwardly, allowing centrifugal force to assist in raising the mixture being recycled. Also, not shown, the housing surface may be provided with the impelling means, e.g. grooves and/or ribs, and the rotor with recycling grooves and/or ribs. The impelling means may comprise a single rib or ribs, a single groove or grooves or alternating ribs and grooves, and the recycling passageway may be similarly defined.
