Abstract

1384371 Settling solid particles from liquids SERCK INDUSTRIES Ltd 6 April 1972 [14 Jan 1971] 1791/71 Heading BID Liquid containing solid particles in suspension is introduced through pipe 11 into a tank 10 having a conical or pyramidal well 18 the bottom of which is connected by a passage 19 to the upper part of a chamber 14 disposed beneath the well. Sludge settles in well 18, and supernatant liquid leaves the tank 10 over peripheral weir 12. Valve 20 in passage 19 may be operated automatically in response to the level of sludge in well 18. Air can enter or leave chamber 14 through vent 22. Sludge is withdrawn from chamber 14 through valve 21.
