Abstract
1384320 Monitoring methane in air photoelectrically POLSKIE ZAKLADY OPTYCZNE 17 April 1972 [3 May 1971] 17525/72 Heading G1A In an apparatus for monitoring the presence of methane in an air sample flowing through a measuring chamber 8 of an interferometric device a movable slot 13 defines the portion of the interference pattern viewed by a photo-cell 14 whose output actuates a warning device when a pre-set CH 4 level is exceeded. To calibrate the device the measuring chamber 8 and reference chambers 5, 11 are filled with the same gas, and the slot 13 is moved to give a minimum photo-cell output. The air under test is then flowed through the chamber 8 and the presence of CH 4 actuates an audible alarm 20 and/or a flashing light 21.
