Abstract

1383729 Rotary internal-combustion engines NISSAN MOTOR CO LTD 9 May 1973 [15 May 1972] 22165/73 Headings F1B and F1F In a Wankel engine ignition is effected by reaction of the fuel with oxygen generated by decomposing hydrogen peroxide. As shown in Fig. 1 fuel and hydrogen peroxide may be injected into a chamber 28 through lines 36, 38 and a nozzle 34, decomposition of the peroxide being due to residual heat in the chamber, which is preheated by a glow plug 32. A spring-loaded needle 42 to meter the fuel is retracted by pressure in a chamber 48, the peroxide and fuel flowing through passageways 50, 52, respectively. The needle may be replaced with a valve (70), Fig. 3 (not shown). Alternatively, decomposition may be caused by a catalyst 82, Fig. 4, comprizing silver-plated steel wires and into which the peroxide flows from a passageway 78, the decomposition products entering the main chamber of the engine through a solenoid-actuated valve 84.
