Abstract

1383326 Vibration-slip casting NORTON CO 28 March 1972 [2 April 1971] 8516/71 Heading B5A A mixture of particulate fused silica and a liquid and having a dilatant flow characteristic (i.e. exhibiting substantially no free liquid, little or no plasticity on application of direct pressure and flow at an extremely slow rate, if at all but readily flowing on application of a rapidly alternating shear stress), is contacted with moulding means which absorbs liquid to remove the dilatant flow characteristic and vibrated in contact with the moulding means to fluidize the mixture. The liquid is preferably water. A deflocculating agent, e.g. sodium hexameta-phosphate may be incorporated. The vibrating mixture may also be oscillated. The mould may be formed of plaster of Paris.
