Abstract
1382860 Projectiles and cartridges AAI CORP 25 Aug 1972 [24 Sept 1971] 39721/72 Heading F3A A projectile 31, Fig. 4, for dispensing a volatile liquid F comprises a rupturable wall 63 protected against inadvertant impacts by a ring of castellations 71. A line of weakness 65 facilitates rupture at impact. Canted fins 35 spin the projectile during flight. A snap connection 27, 33a secures the projectile in the mouth of a cartridge case 21 and a wad 81 separates the projectile from a propellant 93. The wad is made of nylon or polythene and is deformed and/or sheared by its contact with fins 35 at the time of firing; or, alternatively, a readily disintegrable paper-coated cork wad (181, Fig. 7, not shown) is employed. The projectile is made from glass-filled nylon, acetal resin, tempered glass, or zinc, aluminium and lead alloys. The cartridge case 21 is formed of polycarbonate, polyethylene, polyurethane, polypropylene, polystyrene, rubber, brass, aluminium or steel.
