Abstract

1382753 Eburnamonine RICHTER GEDEON VEGYESZETI GYAR 17 May 1973 [17 May 1972] 23574/73 Heading C2C Racemic or optically active eburnamonine is prepared by reacting vincaminic acid in an organic solvent or solvent mixture with a suspension of an oxidizing agent that is substantially insoluble in the solvent medium. Suitable oxidizing agents are, for example, silver carbonate, silver oxide and manganese dioxide. If desired dextrarotatory or racemic vincamine may be converted into laevorotatory or racemic vincaminic acid respectively by known methods or these may then be converted to laevorotatory or racemic eburnamonine (vincamone) by the process of the invention. Alternatively laevorotatory vincamine obtained by the resolution of racemic vincamine may be hydrolysed and the dextrarotatory vincamine acid so obtained may be oxidized as above to give dextrarotatory eburnamonine.
