1382576 Atractyloside derivatives INVERNI DELLA BEFFA SpA 30 March 1972 [30 April 1971] 12457/71 Heading C2C The invention comprises novel therapeutic compounds containing the nucleus of Formula (A) and especially novel compounds (I), (II), (III), (IV) and (V) (where R<SP>3</SP> and R<SP>4</SP> are H, one equivalent of a metal or an optionally substituted hydrocarbon group, e.g. Me and Z<SP>1</SP> and Z<SP>2</SP> signify keto or a carbon atom linked by its remaining valencies to a hydrogen atom and an oxygen atom). (I) is obtained by extracting rhizomes of Atractylis gummifera with organic solvent, especially ethanol or acetone at 40‹ to 50‹ C. (I) can be decarboxylated to give atractyloside or it can be hydrolysed to give (II); (III), (IV) and (V) are derived from (II).
