Abstract

1382261 Control of D.C. motors L SEYMOUR 26 Jan 1973 [6 Nov 1971] 51685/71 Heading H2J Intermittent operation, of the; windscreen wipers 4 of a vehicle is provided by the circuit shown, in which contacts 1, 2 are mounted'on the inside of the windscreen 3 which, when dry, produces a capacity value between the contacts to prevent signals applied to contact 1 being received by contact 2, the presence of water on the windscreen changing the capacity to produce at contact 2 a signal which is applied via a transistor amplifier 8, 10 to fire a thyristor 15 and so energize the wiper motor 16. Subsequent closure of the wiper-actuated switch 5 provides energization of the motor for one wiper cycle, removes the supply voltage from amplifier 8, 10 to isolate thyristor 15 from contact 2 and shunts the thyristor to cause it to turn off, further firing occurring when switch 5 opens if sufficient water is still present on the windscreen. Contact 1 may be fed with pulses from the vehicle ignition circuit or from a separate generator, suitable screening and filtering arrangements being provided. Protective diodes 12, 13, 14, 17 are provided for the thyristor 15 and the voltage supply to the amplifier, which supply may be regulated by a Zener diode to stabilize the amplifier current gain.
