Abstract

1382260 Electrophotographic developer compositions RICOH KK 31 Dec 1971 60887/71 Heading C3P [Also in Division G2] A developer composition for electrophotographic use comprises a particulate pigment and a copolymer comprising units derived from a compound of the formula wherein R 1 is H or CH 3 and R 2 is a group (1#n#20) and units derived from a compound of the formula wherein R 1 is as above and X is either (a) -COO(CH 2 )OH or (b) chlorophenyl. When using a copolymer comprising units/derived from compounds of Formula I and Formula II(a), units derived from a compound of the formula wherein R 1 is as above and Y is phenyl, tolyl, nitrophenyl, hydroxyphenyl, 4-(2,3-epoxyprop- 1-ylcarbonyl)phenyl or -COOR 3 (R 3 being 2 - hydroxyethyl or 2,3 - epoxyprop - 1 - yl) may also be present. When using a copolymer comprising units derived from compounds of Formula I and Formula II (b) units derived from a compound of the formula wherein R 1 is as above and Z is pyridyl, aminophenyl, N,N-dimethylaminophenyl, aminocarbonylphenyl, N,N - dimethylaminocarbonylphenyl, aminocarbonyl or -COOR 4 (R 4 being -(C n1 H 2n1 ) 2 N(C n11 H 2n11+12 ) in which n<SP>1</SP> and n<SP>11</SP> may be the same or different and each represents an integer from 1 to 4). In a first example pigment particles (carbon black-C.I. No. 77266) are blended with a lauryl methacrylate / hydroxymethylmethacrylate / styrene copolymer and the particles formed are blended with a lauryl methacrylate/dimethylaminomethacrylate copolymer. In a second example pigment particles (carbon black) were blended with a lauryl methacrylate/p-chlorostyrene/pdimethylaminostyrene copolymer and the resulting particles were blended with an octyl methacrylate-styrene-hydroxyethyl methacrylate copolymer.
