Abstract

1382235 Castors ARCHIBALD KENRICK & SONS Ltd 13 Jan 1972 [18 Dec 1970] 60153/70 Heading A4U A swivelling castor comprises a metal wheel 7 having a hollow hub 8 the bore of which is an interference fit on a plastics bearing sleeve 5 rotatably mounted on a boss 4 projecting from a metal body part 1 of the castor. The body part has a bearing 2 for a pivot pin fitted in a bore in an article of furniture and strengthening ribs 3 and axial movement of the sleeve on the boss 4 is prevented by the inner surface of the body part and a circumferential flange 6 which is upset outwardly from the boss after the sleeve is installed. A peripheral wall 9 of the wheel, forming a ground-engaging surface, is inclined to the axis of the wheel and has a rim to which overlaps a rim 11 of the body part to prevent the ingress of foreign matter to the bearing. A plastics tyre 12 may be provided. In modifications the sleeve is made of sintered metal or the castor is non-swivellable.
