1382134 Toy building blocks W RETZLER and B H KNIGHT 9 July 1973 [12 July 1972] 32635/72 Heading A6S [Also in Division E2] A set of building blocks for use as a toy, includes pairs of units of which one is hollow with an opening defined partly between two opposite parallel walls having recesses or holes accessible from the inside, and the other has two parallel flat tongues with projections on their outer faces to be engaged in the recesses or holes. In one form, plastics toy building blocks each have openings 14, Figs. 1, 2, at one end through which access may be had to holes 13 in opposite walls. At the other ends each block has resilient tongues 15 which can be flexed inwards towards each other to allow projections 16 to be inserted into the holes 13, Fig. 4. In a modification, the opening 14 is in one side, instead of at the end, of the block, Fig. 3 (not shown). In another form, one of the units has holes 13 at each end, and the tongues are omitted, Fig. 5 (not shown). In yet another form, a block has three pairs of resilient tongues 15A, Fig. 6, with circular projections 16A, for insertion through an opening 14 into holes 13A. In another variant, a block has three openings 14, Fig. 7, two at each end and one in the middle, and a single pair of flexible tongues 15A. To provide an angled connection, two holes 13B, Fig. 8, in opposite parallel walls 12B are reached through an opening 14B having its two other sides formed by the ends of curved walls 11B, with flexible tongues 15B, &c at the other end. In a final form, two hollow arms H4, Fig. 9, have pairs of holes 13B and a pair of flexible tongues, &c 15B.
