Abstract

1382089 Spray producers METCO INC 3 Nov 1972 [12 Nov 1971] 50730/72 Heading B2F [Also in Division H5] A nozzle for a plasma generator comprises a passage having an inlet portion 12 an intermediate portion 14 inclined to the inlet portion 12 and an outlet portion 15 inclined in the same sense to the intermediate portion 14, and at a greater angle to the inlet portion 12. As described, the angle A between the inlet portion 12 and intermediate portion 14 is between 4 and 28‹ and the angle B between the inlet portion 12 and outlet portion 15 is between 45 and 90‹. For optimum plasma generation sin (B-A)#90% sin B. The nozzle construction enables work to be performed around corners and in small apertures. The nozzle may be made of copper, copper alloy, brass, aluminium or steel or of insulating material such as polyethylene or nylon having at least one inch of the bore made of or lined with electrically conductive material. Blind bores 20, 21 are provided for cooling and ribs 16 for securing to a generator so that rod electrode 18 has on the axis of the inlet portion 12. Welding, cutting and flame spraying of metal and ceramics are specified applications. A powder feed passage 30 is fed with powder in a carrier gas. The nozzle may be used with an extension tube.
