Abstract

1381652 Automatic control of attitude ELLIOTT BROS (LONDON) Ltd 5 April 1973 [5 Jan 1972] 528/72 Heading G3R In a manual/automatic aircraft attitude control system, the position of a manual control member is varied in the automatic mode to ensure smooth manual/automatic changeover. As shown, in the manual mode, the aircraft pitch is controlled by actuator 2 according to the difference between the actual pitch rate as measured by gyro 6 and a desired pitch rate determined by the position of control stick 5 as measured by device 4. In the automatic mode, this control is modified by the difference between the output of device 4 and a signal from autopilot 8, this difference also being used via actuator 10 to vary the position of stick 5 in the automatic mode to ensure smooth changeover. Other attitude parameters may be controlled for example using height acceleration rather than pitch rate signals.
