Abstract

1381573 Photo-electric object detection PHILIPS ELECTRONIC & ASSOCIATED INDUSTRIES Ltd PHILIPS GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN NV 24 May 1973 24835/73 Heading H4D A device for moving object detection comprises an optical imaging system and four separate detection elements arranged in line, the elements being connected in such a way that their combined output signal comprises two pulses, one positive, one negative, for the passage of each of the leading and trailing edges of the object image over the elements. In the emoodiment of Fig. 1b, holometers B1 to B4 are connected to voltage sources 3 via resistors 4. The output of the combined detectors is passed to an amplifier 5. Fig. 2 illustrates the output signal of the device as an image passes over the detectors. In this case the image is that of the earth and the device is situated on a satellite. The first positive and negative peaks are caused by the leading edge of the image travelling over the detection elements while the second peaks are due to the trailing edge of the image. The dotted curve is the signal obtained if the time for the image to cross each holometer is of the same order or shorter than the time constant of each bolometer. Further embodiments are illustrated in Figs. 6 to 8 (not shown) and a logic circuit for processing the signal from amplifier 5 is illustrated in Fig. 4 (not shown). The further embodiments utilize photo-cells or photodiodes as the detection elements.
