Abstract

1381514 Automatic analysis apparatus SIEMENS AG 14 April 1972 [16 April 1971] 17406/72 Heading G1B [Also in Division G3] A specimen-distributing unit for use in association with a testing apparatus operable to perform a given test Fig. 3 (not shown), comprises a transporting device 3 for successively delivering specimen vessels 1 each bearing machine-readable patient-and test-identification codes on a jacket 2, Fig. 1, from a storage location 4 to a specimen transfer station, a reading device 5 arranged to read the code on the specimen vessel at the specimen transfer station, specimen transfer device 6 controlled by the reading device 5 and arranged to transfer a quantity of the specimen liquid from the specimen vessel to a specimen receiving location 12 on a specimen carrier 11, when the code indicates that the test to which specimens on carrier 11 are to be subjected is to be performed on the specimen then at the transfer station, and data transfer means 8 for recording for example on punched tape 9 the code marking of specimens transferred to carrier 11, in the order in which the specimens are located on the carrier. Carrier 11 when loaded and tape 9 may be placed in the testing apparatus Fig. 3 (not shown) and the specimens extracted successively by means 16 for measurement at 15, data store 17 storing the data for each specimen in association with the test results on that specimen. A plurality of specimen code reading and transfer devices 5, 6 may be arranged in series along transporting device 3, each feeding a different carrier 11 with specimens for a given test, or alternatively, after each vessel from location 4 has been examined, vessel-receiving magazine 21 may be placed in position 4, test selector device 13 reset to allow operation of specimen transfer device 6 when a code marking relating to a different test is detected, and each specimen vessel transported through the unit again. There is provision for inclusion of control samples.
