Abstract

1381493 Compressing a slurry RESIL PROCESSES Ltd 11 Feb 1972 [5 March 1971] 6166/71 Heading B5A [Also in Division B8] A press comprises a pressing cavity 43, a latch-retained cover plate 99, a pressing platen 34 that also ejects the pressed article from the cavity, and means for escape of liquid from the cavity. As described for forming a hot top tile assembly from a slurry described in patent Specification 1,300,954, the apparatus is initially positioned as shown in Fig. 2. A slidable trough (129) (see Figs. 1, 3, not reproduced) is extended by a pneumatic ram (132) over the pressing cavity 43, and a valve (121) operated to deliver slurry from a store (see Division B8). The trough is withdrawn, and a double acting pneumatic ram 83 (Fig. 2) operated to lower the cover plate 99 via a pulley system 80, 81. A pair of rams (162) (see Fig. 1) pivot hooked latches (53) to engage and lock on to a cover plate support 91 (Fig. 2). A pneumatic ram 20 raises the plates 34 until level with angled parts 46, 47 at the top of the cavity 43, whereupon a maximum pressure of 5 tons is applied. The latches are withdrawn, the cover plate 99 raised, and the pressed article lifted from the cavity 43 by the ram 20. Cavity 43.-The cavity comprises end plates having a curved upper extremities 48 that mate with the curved cover plate 99. The front and back plates 43, 44 converge towards one end plate. The cover plate supports 97, 102 include apertures for escape of liquid from the slurry during pressing.
