Abstract
1380853 Piezo-electric lighters ETABS GENOUD & CIE 2 March 1973 [7 April 1972] 10271/73 Heading F4F [Also in Division H2] A piezo-electric lighter comprises a control member 1 which is pivotal about a fixed axis 2 and arranged when actuated to lower an intermediate sliding member 9 and raise a striker 6, the two opposite displacements compressing a single spring 8 for driving the striker against a piezo-electric crystal 7 and for returning the control member to its initial position when it is released, the spring urging member 9 towards the control member 1 so as to exert a force thereon via member 9, the force being offset relative to the axis 2. The control member 1 and striker 6 are connected by a link 5 comprising a steel spring wire bent into a hairpin shape, the link engaging a slot 3 with retaining notch 4 in control member 1 and moving out of notch 4 as the member 1 is pivoted thereby freeing the striker for impact with crystal 7. The arms of link 5 engage the striker at offset positions so that the link is biased into notch 4. The igniter may form part of a gas fuelled cigarette lighter a burner valve of which is raised by means of a lever controlled by member 1. Alternatively the member 9 may carry a projection which engages the fuel reservoir and depresses the reservoir thereby opening the fuel valve.
