Abstract

1380727 Envelopes JOHN DICKINSON & CO Ltd 28 June 1972 [12 May 1971] 14398/71 Addition to 1294497 Heading B6A An envelope has a pocket with a first wall 3 and a second wall 1 a closure flap 2 being contiguous with the second wall 1, an area of adhesive, constituted by a laminated strip 7 comprising at least two plies and having on its exposed surface an adhesive, being provided on the flap or first wall 3 for sealing the envelope, and the first wall 3 having an incision 8 or line of weakness defining a tear tab 9 which, at least when the envelope is sealed, coincides with the area of adhesive the arrangement being such that the plies delaminate or the first wall is torn at the tear tab 9 if an attempt is made to open the flap 2. In the case of a wagon envelope, the first wall 3 is transparent and the second wall 1 and flap opaque. The adhesive area is protected by a cover strip 7a until use, the strip 7 being located so that when folded at a crease line 15, the flap closes the pocket with the adhesive area sealing adjacent or across the mouth 5 of the pocket. A line of perforations 6 is provided for normal opening of the envelope. Perforations on the flap 2 may define a removable portion 6a for checking the contents of the sealed envelope. A continuous web of such envelopes having transport perforation may be made from superposed opaque and transparent webs, Fig. 4 (not shown).
