Abstract
1380723 Starting discharge lamps GAF CORP 20 March 1972 [26 April 1971] 11475/71 Heading H2H In order to improve the starting and restarting operations of a fluorescent lamp 10 having a resistive ballast 14 an inductor 16 is provided, the lamp 10, ballast 14 and inductor 16 being connected in series across an A.C. supply L, N. The inductor having a core 22, inside a bobbin 20 on which the coil 24 is wound and two terminals 28 which extend through one end member of the bobbin. The inductor 16 may have an air, iron, ferrous or ferrite core and is encapsulated in a plastics material. The arrangement is particularly suitable for lamps above 40 watts. A bi-metal starting strip 12 is provided in parallel with the lamp.
