Abstract
1379799 Liquid fuel burners MITSUBISHI DENKI KK 10 Aug 1972 [10 Aug 1971 13 Oct 1971 20 Oct 1971 31 March 1972] 37419/72 Heading F4T Liquid-fuel combustion apparatus comprises a liquid fuel reservoir 601, Fig. 6, a fuel pump 602, a fuel vaporizer 605, a combustion chamber 608, a fuel vapour condenser 609, and switching means for selectively switching the flow of vaporized fuel to the condenser during awarmup period and for thereafter passing vaporized fuel to the combustion chamber. The switching means may comprise a valve 611, which is open during the warm-up period, and an ejector structure 606 having a nozzle at the outlet of vaporizer 605, an outlet 607 to the chamber 608 and a pipe leading to condenser 609. When valve 611 is open, all the fuel vapour passes into pipe 610 and none to outlet 607. A second switching means comprises a spring-biased ball-valve which opens above a predetermined pressure so that the fuel vapour flows to the condenser or the combustion chamber when a valve between the vaporizer and combustion chamber is closed or open respectively, Fig. 2 (not shown). An alternative embodiment of the apparatus, Fig. 8, comprises a fuel pump 810 and constant-pressure means 811 supplying fuel to a vaporizer 826, heated during warm-up by an electric heater 816 and thereafter by the heat of combustion, supplying a nozzle 822 or a condenser 821 via valve 818 having a solenoid actuator 819 selectively to close an outlet of valve 818 to the condenser 821 or an outlet to the nozzle 822. The valve outlet to the condenser is via a passage receiving a valve-operating stem whereby said passage provides a flowrestriction to reduce the vapour pressure acting on a seal at the point at which said stem passes out of the valve-body to connect to the solenoid 819 external thereto, Fig. 11 (not shown). Vapour is condensed in the condenser 821 to pre-heat combustion air supplied by a blower 801 to a preheating chamber 802. The heat-transfer path between the heater 826 and an inner wall of the chamber 802 is arranged so that the vaporizer is normally at about 250‹ C., for kerosine, and chamber 802 is at 100‹ to 150‹C. Alternatively, a second electric heater may heat the chamber 802 during warm-up. A capillary tube 827 between the vaporizer and a fuel supply line 817 thereto is stated to act to maintain the heat output of the apparatus substantially constant. Fuel vapour from nozzle 822 and preheated air from the chamber 802 pass to a mixing chamber 823 during combustion and thence via openings 825 to a mixture-collecting chamber 803 leading via an apertured disc 806 to the combustion chamber 804 which has an ignition plug 808.
