Abstract
1379771 Four loud-speaker stereo systems CBS Inc 11 Feb 1972 [24 Feb 1971] 6581/72 Heading H4R In a matrix for decoding four signals, to be fed to the four loud-speakers of a quadrophonic reproduction system, from two channels in which the original signals L f , L b , R f and R b are combined, as described in Specification 1,347,993, so that each channel carries a respective front signal, R f or L f plus a prop ortion of each of the rear signals R b and L b , in quadrature with each other and respectively leading and lagging the main signal in one channel and lagging and leading the main signal in the other channel, the decoding matrix includes phase shifting circuits 154, 156, 158, 160 connected to derive from the signals in each of the channels two signals bearing a quadrature phase relation, i.e. 162, 184, and 190, 168. Two of these signals, 162, 168, are used direct for reproduction as "front" signals L f <SP>11</SP> and R f <SP>11</SP> and in addition signals from each channel are combined in circuits 182, 188, to provide two signals having respectively predominant Lb and R b components for reproduction as "back" signals. The output signals are fed to the reproducers 170, 172, 174, 176, via amplifiers 178, 180, 186, 192, whose gain is controlled by a logic circuit, Fig. 1b (not shown), which is of the type described in co-pending Application No. 6580/72.
