Abstract
1379722 Gas discharge display panels NCR CORP 19 April 1973 [1 May 1972] 18912/73 Heading H1D A gas discharge display device includes spaced front and rear substrates 14 and 12 formed of insulating material, at least said front substrate being transparent, a first layer 20 of conductive material forming electrodes on the inner surface of said rear substrate, a second layer 32 of conductive material which is opaque provided on the inner surface of said front substrate and having holes 36 therein, first and second layers 28 and 42 of insulating material respectively overlying said first and second layers of conductive material, an insulating member 16 arranged between said substrates and containing cavities the outlines of which conform in shape to and are aligned with said electrodes, said holes 36 in said second layer corresponding in shape to and being generally aligned with, but smaller in area than, said electrodes, and an ionizable gas contained within said cavities. The electrodes 20 may be in the shape of complete characters or may be segments forming a figure 8. The ionizable gas may be a mixture containing neon.
