Abstract

1379451 Removing stabilizers from hydrogen peroxide solution VARTA AG 18 Feb 1972 [1 March 1971] 7632/72 Heading C7B Stabilizers are removed from H 2 O 2 solution and deposited directly at one or more electrodes by passing an electric current through the solution between at least two electrodes. The space between the electrodes is occupied solely either (a) by the H202 solution or (b) by the H 2 O 2 solution and a non-conductive packing, e.g. in the form of flakes or grains. The removal of stabilizers may precede passing the H 2 O 2 solution over a H 2 O 2 decomposition catalyst. Specified stabilizers are stannic acid or aluminium oxide in a colloidal state, sodium stannate, sodium phosphate, salts of Ba, alkali pyrophosphates, colloidal compounds of Mg, salicylic acid, 8- oxychinoline, benzoic acid, dipicolinic acid and tartaric acid. The solution may be moved relative to the electrodes. The electrodes may be from 47 to less than 1 mm apart. They may be plain or porous Ni plates, e.g. carbonyl Ni sintered plates, or may be Ni enriched steel. In the Example, tartaric acid and sodium stannate are removed using 13V, 12À5 mA and a solution temperature of 20-25‹C.
