Abstract

1379168 Preventing and removing deposits BABCOCK & WILCOX Ltd 18 Feb 1972 7681/72 Heading F4B Gaseous material is continuously added to the waste gases containing combustible dust coming from a metallugical furnace so that the gases passing to heat exchange apparatus contain a lower proportion of oxygen then without the addition, thus reducing the deposit of oxides or sulphates. The added gases may be recirculated gas if combustion takes place in the heat exchanger; or nitrogen may be discharged over the heat exchange surfaces of a waste heat boiler, Fig. 3, to reduce the oxygen content of the gases and blow away loose deposits.
