Abstract

1379122 Zinc molybdate SHERWINWILLIAMS CO 7 March 1972 10584/72 Heading C1A [Also in Division C4] A novel form of zinc molybdate is prepared by calcining, at a temperature greater than 120‹C. but below the sintering temperature, molybdated zinc oxide obtained by heating together in an aqueous environment, between 1 and 10 mols of zinc oxide to each mol of molybdenumtrioxide and recovering the salt free waterinsoluble molybdated zinc oxide. The effect of calcining the compound is to change the crystalline structure to show different X-ray absorption peaks and then dehydrate the reaction products, the new X-ray spectra having peaks at 2À57, 2À63, 2À69, 3À62, 3À73, 3À90, and 4À20Š. The new pigment so produced may be used as a corrosion inhibitor in paints and shows a marked increase in protection over existing inhibitors.
