1,248,359. Oxaihiolium salts, CHEMIEKOMBINAT BITTERFELD VEB. 17 April, 1970, No. 18382 /70. Heading C2C. 1,3.Oxathiolium salts of the formula in which R 1 is a group-NRR<SP>1</SP>, -S-alkyl, -S-aryl, -O-alkyl, -O-aryl or an optionally substituted aryl or a heteroaryl group (where R and R<SP>1</SP> are alkyl, aralkyl or aryl radicals or together complete a hetarocyclic ring), R 2 and R 3 are hydrogen, alkyl, optionally substituted aryl or alkoxy groups or together complete a fused carbo- or hetero-cyclic ring, and A is the anion of a strong mineral acid, are prepared by reacting a thioamide of the formula with a compound of the formula n which X is oxygen, an optionally alkyl- or aryl-substituted imino group or a dialkoxy group, and Y is halogen, hydroxy or an acyloxy group, at 20-250‹ C. in an organic solvent in the presence of or with the subsequent addition of a strong mineral acid or of an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal salt of such an acid. Preferred mineral acids are perchloric and hydroiodic acid. The reaction is preferably carried out at 100‹ C. in a carboxylic acid or anhydride solvent. Examples relate to the preparation of salts in which the 2-substituent is a p-dimethylaminophenyl, p - methoxyphenyl, dimethylamino, methylmercapto or p-chlorophenyl group.
