Abstract

1378908 Coated products UNIROYAL Ltd 2 April 1973 [13 Jan 1972] 1631/72 Heading B2E A method of making a carpet underlay comprises preparing a non-cohesive fibrous sheet weighing not more than 150 g/m<SP>2</SP> on a conventional web-forming machine, supporting the web coming from the machine on a conveyor conveying the web beneath means applying a layer of foamed elastomeric latex to the sheet and curing the foamed latex while in position on the sheet. The web may be made of natural or synthetic fibres or a blend of these. Suitable materials are viscose fibres, polyester, polyamide, wool, cotton or acetate fibres. The web may be stitch-bonded or needle-punched between the web-forming machine and the latex-applying station and it may be formed by a carding machine or garnett. The latex may be of natural rubber or of synthetic rubber such as styrene-butadiene neoprene or polyurethane.
