Abstract
1378748 Pneumatic conveyers UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY 3 March 1972 [4 Feb 1971] 3880/71 Heading B8A Apparatus for containing powder in a gas stream comprises a hopper 1 for the powder with a discharge orifice 5 located adjacent the upper surface of a disc 7 with a plurality of slot-shaped recesses 9 formed therein to receive the powder. The base of the recesses are closed by a gauge 105 which is penetrable by a gas but impenetrable by the powder. The disc 7 rotates in a sealed chamber fed with pressurized gas from a nozzle 11 and having a discharge pipe 113 located diametrically opposite the orific 5 and adjacent the upper surface of the disc 7 to receive powder entrained in the gas passing through the gauge. The recesses 9 or the slot 12 in the pipe 113 may be inclined to the radial direction whereby two recesses 9 at any one time are being discharged to produce a continuous flow of powder. The speed of rotation of the disc 7 controls the amount of powder discharged. A stirrer 3 is provided in the hopper. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 4 (not shown), a hollow drum (57) with recesses (59) is located adjacent a discharge orifice (55) of a hopper (51). The interior of the drum (57) is pressurized by gas supplied through a hollow spindle (86), upon which the drum rotates, to discharge the powder in the recesses into a pipe (87). The entrained powder may be fed to a spray gun.
