Abstract
1378741 Uses of luminescence DEFENCE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR 6 Jan 1972 [6 Oct 1970] 47434/70 Heading C4S γ-Radiation of less than 100 kEv. from a radio-active sample is measured using a metalloaded liquid scintillator. The scintillator comprises tetrabutyl tin, PPO and/or POPOP in toluene or dioxan. Tritiated n-hexadecane or naphthalene may be added to reduce quenching. The scintillator may be sealed between the walls of a double-walled container having first been deaerated with N 2 . A sample is placed in the scintillator directly or in a vial of plastics material or glass. Liquid samples are absorbed in carbon cloth or carbon impregnated glass fibre pads.
