Abstract

1378532 Illuminating instrument dials W S STONE 15 March 1972 [18 March 1971] 12015/72 Heading G1J [Also in Divisions F4 and G3] For illuminating the dial of an alarm clock or meter, for example, a transparent cover 16 for mounting over the dial has a lamp 50, one or more batteries 30, 32, 34 and a switch 60 either mounted directly thereon or an a mounting element itself supported by the cover 16. As shown, these components are mounted on the inside of the acrylic or lucite cover 16, which itself is a removable snap fit with the dial casing. The tip of switch button 64 extends through an aperture 66 in the cover 16 and carries phosphorescent material 63, and a disc 62 engages resilient contact 58 which upon operation of the switch co-operates with stationary contact 56 to complete the lamp circuit. The components may be cemented to the cover 16 or, when supported on a mounting element, Figs. 6-8 (not shown), may be removably secured to the cover 16 by screws. The cover assembly may form a complete unit which is discarded and replaced when the battery has run down.
