Abstract

137,845. Great Northern Paper Co., (Assignees of Pope, C. E.). Oct. 25, 1918, [Convention date]. Guiding - mechanism; wet presses.-In passing the paper web 13 or a lead strip thereof produced by a cutter 13<a> to the turning-press 16, 16<a> and from thence to the first drying- cylinder 20, the web is blown off the felt 10 by air jets 21 and directed between rollers 17 and a guide or deflector 22 by air jets 23, 24. The guide-plate is curved at its upper end and directs the web on to the felt 14 and between the rollers 16, 16a. It is stripped from the roller 16<a> by opposed jets 30 and, by means of jets 26 and a guide-plate 25, is directed over a roll 18, while jets 33 support the web in its travel to the baby drier 19 around which it is directed to the first drier 20 by a guide-plate 35 and jets 36. To economize air pressure, the jets may each be provided with a valve, or they may be controlled in groups, or air pipes of different sizes may be fitted.
