Abstract
1378456 Ventilation and dust suppression in mining machines COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS) Ltd 4 May 1973 [19 May 1972] 23621/72 Heading E1F In a mineral mining machine of the type in which a rotary cutter head 29 is mounted on a hollow shaft 2 driven with respect to a machine body 1, a component 4 is fixed to the machine body and is provided with high pressure (e.g. 1000 p.s.i.) 11, and low pressure (e.g. 150 p.s.i.) 15, fluid inlets, a high pressure fluid outlet feeding via a tube 24, a nozzle 25 which delivers a ventilation air inducing jet along the shaft bore 3, and a low pressure fluid outlet in communication with a pipe 16 which feeds fluid to dust suppression nozzles (not shown) on the cutter head. A common fluid inlet may be employed. In the embodiment shown the pipe 16 and the tube 24 rotate with the cutter head within the component 4 and holes 23 in tube 16 communicate with the inlet 15. In a further embodiment (Figs. 4-6 not shown) an assembly projecting from the fixed component has both a central high pressure tube and nozzle and an outer coaxial conduit for low pressure fluid; the low pressure pipe being rotatable about this assembly in communication with the conduit.
