1378194 Casting explosives RHEINMETALL GmbH 5 May 1972 [24 June 1971] 21119/72 Heading B5A In a method of casting mixtures of TNT and hexogen, the mixture is heated to 86‹ C. (i.e. 5‹ C. above the melting point at atmospheric pressure of TNT), and solidified under such a pressure that the melting point of the TNT is raised to a temperature which is greater than that of the mixture at that instant, the solidified mixture then being cooled, with the pressure maintained, to 50‹ C. (i.e. below the melting point of TNT at atmospheric pressure). The preferred mixture has 25-30% by weight of TNT, and a pressure of between 565 and 785 bar is required in this case. The castings produced were cylinders of 100 mm. diameter.
