Abstract

1378069 Making bags TAIYO SHOKAI CO Ltd 8 Dec 1972 [13 Dec 1971] 56730/72 Heading B5D [Also in Divisions B8 and G3] A plurality of films 23a, 23b, e.g. of thermoplastic synthetic resin for packaging, having register marks 27a, 27b, are fed in parallel paths as shown by an intermittently operating conveyer 11 which is stopped when either one of the marks is detected by photo-electric means 28 or 29, and during the next feeding action a retarder 30 or 30<SP>1</SP> is applied to slow only that film whose mark was leading, so that the webs are advanced with their marks substantially in alignment. One or the other of retarders 30, 30<SP>1</SP> (which, are electro-hydraulic or -pneumatic) is always actuated by a change over relay operated by logic circuits (Fig. 3, not shown) according to which detector, 28 or 29, responds first in each operating cycle. The cycle is controlled by a cam 35 driven by a continuously running motor 12. During stationary periods a welder 25 is actuated. As shown, the motor also drives a crank 17 connected to a sector gear 18 which drives the conveyer through a freewheel 21 and a clutch/brake mechanism 22, operated by a switch on the cam 35. In Fig. 4 (not shown), the clutch is omitted and in Fig. 5 (not shown), the motor 12 drives the clutch/brake directly, the cam is omitted and the cycle is controlled by a second set of photo-detectors.
