Abstract

1377206 Wax and ethylene-vinyl ester copolymer blends E I DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO 17 Nov 1971 [17 Nov 1970] 53428/71 Heading C3P A composition comprises an extrudable blend of a wax and an ethylene-vinyl ester copolymer which has a gel content of less than 10% by weight and whose melt index has been reduced by treatment with high energy ionizing radiation at a dose rate of at least 1À0M rad./min. and may contain modifying resins and/or wax reinforcing polymers. The vinyl ester may be vinyl acetate, formate, butyrate, palmitate or stearate and the wax may be paraffin wax, microcrystalline wax, Fischer-Tropsch wax and/or a polyolefin wax. The wax may be mixed with an antioxidant, melted and mixed with the irradiated copolymer and other compounding ingredients. The exemplified blends contain paraffin wax, irradiated and non irradiated ethylenevinyl acetate copolymers; wood rosin, a polyterpene, an ester resin or a vinyl toluene polymer and butylated hydroxy toluene.
