Abstract
1376708 Deadlocks IDEAL SECURITY HARDWARE CORP 11 June 1973 27597/73 Heading E2A A cross-bolt deadlock comprises a housing 5 having at least one slot 12 extending longitudinally from one end thereof, a key operated lock plug 47 mounted for rotation in a cylinder 34 of the housing 5 with its axis transverse to the direction of the slot 12 and a crossbolt 18 mounted in the housing for limited movement in opposite directions transverse to the direction of the slot 12 so that a fastening portion 21 of the bolt 18 either projects into or is withdrawn from the slot 12. The housing 5 has a plurality of apertures 62 for the reception of mounting elements 63 for fastening the deadlock to a door, a shield 64 overlying the apertures 62 and being connected to the housing by a bayonet joint. The shield 64 is fastened in its connected position by a yieldable abutment, e.g. a leaf spring 78, engaging a shoulder preferably on the shield. The shield 64 is provided with a passageway 68 allowing access to the abutment for disengaging the same from the shoulder. Means 69 movable with the lock plug 47 is provided for normally closing the passageway and opening the same only when the lock plug 47 is rotated by a key. The lock plug 47 acts on the cross bolt 18 through a cam 44 which acts on a spring loaded plunger 39 to move the head 40 thereof from one side of a fixed abutment 35 to the other to urge the cross bolt from its fastening position to its inactive position or vice versa. The cross bolt 18 moves between an inner wall member 24 and an outer wall 6 of the housing 5. The inner wall member 24 supports a further cam 45 which is operated by a second lock plug cylinder 56 to actuate the cross-bolt. The deadlock is mounted on a door 1 by firstly holding the second plug cylinder and rose assembly 56, 57 in an aperture 58 in the door by a screw and plate assembly 59, 60 and then securing the housing to the second plug cylinder and door by the mounting elements 63, i.e. screws 63. The cross bolt 18 has two fastening portions 21 which may each be urged into a corresponding opening 15 in a lug 14 of a strike 13, the two lugs 14 of the strike 13 in the closed condition of the door each entering a different slot in the housing (Fig. 1, not shown).
