Abstract
1376529 Suspension levelling systems FICHTEL & SACHS AG 31 Aug 1972 [2 Oct 1971] 40429/72 Heading B7D [Also in Division F2] A transverse shut-off valve in a vehicle suspension levelling system comprises a T-piece 1 connecting a pressure line 2<SP>1</SP> from a levelregulating valve 4 to respective lines 21, 21<SP>1</SP> supplying adjustable spring units 7, 7<SP>1</SP>, and valve assemblies 8, 8<SP>1</SP> provided in the transverse tube 25 of the T-piece to prevent transfer of fluid between the spring units. Each valve assembly 8, 8<SP>1</SP> comprises a housing 9, 91 having at one end an aperture 13, 13<SP>1</SP> surrounded by a flange 14, 14<SP>1</SP> and closed by a spring-loaded ball valve 10, 10<SP>1</SP>, and at the other end an aperture 15, 15<SP>1</SP> surrounded by a valve cone 11, 11<SP>1</SP> co-operating with a seating ring 19, 19<SP>1</SP> inserted into the tube 25. A sealing ring 22 formed from self-adhesive rubber or plastics film is provided on the flange 14<SP>1</SP> of one valve housing 9<SP>1</SP>. A pump 3 delivers fluid from a reservoir 5 to the level-regulating valve 4 which adjusts the pressure in the line 2<SP>1</SP> to counteract level variations detected through regulating conduits 6, 6<SP>1</SP> connected to the spring units 7, 7<SP>1</SP>. The ball valves 10, 10<SP>1</SP> permit fluid to flow from the line 2<SP>1</SP> to both spring units 7, 7<SP>1</SP>, and a gap 23 between the valve assemblies 9, 9<SP>1</SP> enable both assemblies to lift from the seating rings 19, 19<SP>1</SP> to allow fluid to flow from the spring units to the line 2<SP>1</SP>. If unequal pressures occur in the spring units 7, 7<SP>1</SP> due to non-uniform loading the valve assembly 9, 9<SP>1</SP> connected the spring unit carrying the greater load lifts from its seating ring 19, 19<SP>1</SP> and is pressed against the other valve assembly so that increased pressure in the line 2<SP>1</SP> is communicated only to the heavily loaded spring unit.
