Abstract

1376474 Immersion heaters DEUTSCHE VORTEX GmbH 22 June 1972 [24 June 1971] 29341/72 Heading H5H [Also in Division F4] An electric immersion heater comprising a resistance heating element 2 enclosed in a hollow body 3, which is deformable to remove scale formed thereon is characterized in that the hollow body is formed by circular metal sheets 3, joined hermetically at their margin 4 and each provided with concentric circular corugations so designed that during deformation such sheet is subjected to uniformly distributed elastic strain. The element 2 comprises a tungsten alloy coil mounted at spaced points on a metal support and electrically connected to a thermal switch 12. Switch 12 is thermally connected by a copper rod 13 with a space above the immersion heater. Thermal insulation 14 surrounds copper rod 13. Should water in tank 10 drop below level 15 steam is generated which heats the rod to operate the switch and de-energize the heating element. The hollow body 3, is filled with inert gas, e.g. argon which expands deforming the sheets 3, 3<SP>1</SP> when element 2 is energized. Sheets 3 are aminated nickel bronze sheets.
