Abstract

1,132,367. Electric hot plates. GENERAL MOTORS CORP. 26 May, 1966 [24 June, 1965], No. 23651/66. Heading H5H. A hot-plate comprises an electrical resistance element 44 mounted on a support which comprises a number of radial arms 62, 76 detachably connected to a central hub 94, said arms having a number of grooves 74, 88 in which said element is located so as to be spaced from a lower plate 18 and an upper plate 38 of infra-red transparent material of low thermal conductivity. The ends of the ribbon element 44 are secured to terminals 46 and 48 and rotational movement of the support is prevented by a spring member 106 which engages two of the arms 62. The lower surfaces of the arms, which are of steatite or like ceramic material, are recessed to reduce the areas in contact with the plate 18, and a seal (34) (Fig. 5, not shown) is provided between the upper plate 38 and a ring member (22) supporting the lower plate 18 and clamped to the upper plate by a clamp ring (42).
