Abstract

1376166 Scavenging vessels BRITISH PETROLEUM CO Ltd 22 May 1972 [15 June 1971] 27941/71 Headings B7A and B7V [Also in Division B1] Apparatus for emulsifying oil on the sea surface comprises a drum as 4a, 4b supported by floats 2a, 2b and rotated by motors 3a, 3b, the drum surface being capable of agitating the sea surface. The drum may be made of perforated or expanded metal. Emulsifying agent may be fed from tank 8 along channel 9 to shaft 1 and dispensed through orifices therein. The apparatus may be towed, or self-propelled by the rotation of the drum. Alternatively the drum may be used with a conventional ship, e.g. between the hulls of a catamaran.
