Abstract

1377630 Ship propulsion ENERGLYN RT HON LORD 23 Oct 1972 [23 Oct 1971] 49339/71 Heading B7V [Also in Divisions B1-B2 and F1] A device capable of pumping, stirring, autogenous grinding or mixing comprises a hollow body 1 having an aperture 2 at or adjacent one end, the cross-section of the body at right angles to the longitudinal axis increases from said one end to a maximum where the body has a plurality of apertures 5 therein, the cross-section then decreases to a closed end and there are means 4 for rotating the body about said axis. The body may take the form as shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3. Fig. 4 shows two devices mounted in series for moving powders or sludges from a depth. A sieve 7 can be used to rid liquids of unwanted constituents. The devices may also be mounted inside a pipe to act as a conventional lift pump. Alternatively the device can serve as a means of propelling ships or boats, or in industrial processes involving the production of fine powders, the mixing of powders, the formation of fine mixtures such as paint, emulsions, dyes and the removal of sludges or slimes from tanks and cess pits.
