Abstract
1376106 Detecting pre-selected objects DEFENCE SECRETARY OF STATE FOR 24 Jan 1972 [26 Oct 1970] 50654/70 Heading G1A A system for detecting the presence of a pre-selected object 24, Fig. 2, having a corner cube retro reflector 12 comprises a source of light 9, a curved reflector 10, a pair of concave mirrors 15 and 16 and associated photo-cells 18 and 19 positioned as shown so that when the object 24 is illuminated by the beam one photo-cell 18 has a field of view which includes the radiation reflected from the corner cube, and the other photo-cell 19 has a field of view which substantially excludes the "corner cube" radiation, the fields of view otherwise being substantially the same. The photo-cells 18 and 19 are connected to a differential amplifier 21 so that a signal output may be used to operate an audio or visual display when the object is within the field of view of the photocell 18. In a further similar embodiment, Fig. 3, the two concave mirrors 15 and 16 are replaced by one concave mirror 35 and a plane mirror 36 arranged as shown. The whole apparatus may be mounted on a platform (44), Fig. 4 (not shown) which is slowly rotated.
