Abstract
1376097 Measuring rate of material removal electrically MOSKOVSKY STANKOINSTRUMENTALNY INSTITUT 13 March 1973 12095/73 Heading G1N The rate of removal of material during machining of a workpiece 1 by a machine tool 2 is determined by passing the material removed through a measuring element which provides a signal representing the momentary removal rate of material, and measuring this signal on an instrument 16. As shown, the material is passed through an aperture in a coil 4, via funnel 3, the coil forming part of a high-frequency generator 8 whose output is compared in a mixer 10 with a reference from a second high-frequency generator 9. The mixer output is amplified at 11 and is applied to a frequency discriminator 12 whose D.C. output is applied to the instrument 16 graduated in units of removal rate. An integrator 14 having a limit controller 15 is also provided to enable the average removal rate to be measured at 17. The discriminator 12 is provided with a multiple position sensitivity regulator 13 to enable the same scale on instrument 16 to be used with different materials. In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 2 (not shown), the coils 4, 5 are arranged in a bridge circuit with a pair of identical resistances, one diagonal of the bridge being connected to a highfrequency generator while the other diagonal is connected to an amplifier, provided with a sensitivity regulator, whose output is connected to a phase-sensitive detecter also connected to the high-frequency generator. The instrument 16 and the integrator 14 are connected to the output of the phase-sensitive dector.
