Abstract

1376083 Head circuit for digital recording U HOFMANN 31 Jan 1972 4420/72 Heading G5R [Also in Division H3] A magnetic head circuit for recording binary digits includes a condenser Cp in parallel with the head coil L, R L to constitute an oscillation circuit, and two transistors T 1 , T 2 which are switched by the input voltage e(t) and are connected through respective diodes D 1 , D 2 to the head coil-L, R L such that when one transistor conducts energy is supplied to the oscillation circuit, the other transistor then being non- conducting to prevent continued oscillation. As shown, the transistors T 1 , T 2 may be of opposite conductivity typesand are connected to the same side of the coil L, R L . Input voltage e(t) is applied to the transistor bases through base resistors R B1 , R B2 . When input voltage e(t) changes, one transistor conducts and the oscillation circuit makes one half of an oscillation before coil current i L stabilizes. The transistor collectors are biased by a voltage U B less than or equal to the input pulse voltage e(t). In an alternative embodiment, Fig. 1 (not shown), the transistors (T 1 , R 2 ) are of the same conductivity type, being connected to opposite ends of coil (L), which is centre-tapped to bias voltage (-U B ). Transistor (T 1 ) base is connected to input e(t), while transistor (T 2 ) base is connected to the inverse e(t).
