Abstract
1375831 Valves E J CLERK 2 Nov 1971 [9 Nov 1970] 53158/70 Heading F2V A valve for controlling the quantity of liquid discharged from a tank or cistern 1, comprises a ball or float 5 acting as a closure member for a discharge outlet 2 of the cistern, the float 5 having means for reducing its buoyancy so that, after opening, it automatically closes the outlet 2 earlier. The float has a lower aperture 10, and an upper aperture 8 closed by a valve element 17 to trap air within the float. A slotted tubular housing 11 fixed to the float 5 receives an actuating rod 18 for the element 17. The assembly of float 5, housing 11 and element 17 is associated with two independently-operable actuating levers 20, 26. Pivotal movement of lever 26 raises the whole assembly and allows a maximum quantity of liquid to flow from the cistern before the assembly automatically returns to its closed position. Alternatively, pivotal movement of lever 20 initially raises the element 17 until it abuts annular member 25, whereafter the whole assembly is raised by continued movement of lever 20. Thus the air is released from the float, resulting in earlier return of the float to the closed position.
