Abstract

1374986 Coating composition PVO INTERNATIONAL Inc 18 Nov 1971 [28 June 1971 8 Nov 1971] 53679/71 Heading B2E [Also in Division C3] Wet surfaces are coated with a coating composition comprising (A) an epoxy resin containing only C, H, O and optionally Cl atoms, (B) a stoichiometric amount of an amine curing agent, which is water insoluble and water insensitive of general formula RNHCH 2 CH 2 NH 2 in which R is an ether radical which contains an at least C 8 aliphatic hydrocarbon radical, or as curing agent, an adduct of an epoxy resin with such an amine or a unit corresponding amine in which R is an at least C 8 aliphatic hydrocarbon radical. (A) may be a diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A. The curing agent may be C 13 H 25 O(CH 2 ) 3 NH (CH 2 ) 3 NH or an adduct of 5 parts of a diamine C 18 H 35 NH(CH 2 ) 3 NH 2 and 1 part of a glycydyl ether of bisphenol A. Conventional adjuvants and pigments may be present, examples being ground silica, asbestos fibre, iron oxide, CaCO 3 , TiO 2 . Surfaces to be coated include iron, steel, wood, masonary and walls, floors and ceilings of concrete or brick. Ships bottoms and marine pilings are mentioned as being coated underwater. The coating is preferably applied as an aqueous emulsion, e.g. by brushing or paint roller.
