Abstract

1374953 Supporting converter bodies VEREINIGTE OSTERREICHISCHE EISENUND STAHLWERKE AG 14 March 1973 [15 March 1972] 12304/73 Heading F4B A converter 1 is supported in a horse shoe carrying frame 2 by carriers 8 journalled in the frame and extending into bearer rings 3, Figs. 3 and 4, secured to the converter by radial brackets 4 welded to the converter shell, the carriers and bearer rings being connected by flanges spaced from the converter body. Each carrier 8 has a foot 7 with a flange 10 and rim 9 which engage the L-section bearer ring 3, Fig. 4. The flange 10 of the port 7 and the inwardly projecting flange 5 of the bearer ring 3 are joined by bolts 11. The flange 5 is spaced from the converter body 1 to allow access to the nuts 12 and to lessen heat transfer. A lug 14 on the foot 7 enters a recess in the ring 3, and is held by a bar 16, wedges 15 and a bolt 17 to prevent twisting. The carrying devices are spaced apart by 120 degrees so that the converter body may be turned within the frame and each carrier connected to a different bearer ring to compensate for distortion.
